Nurses and Midwives Salaries increased

The Ugandan Government has signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Public Service Unions Including Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union to increase their Salaries. This came after Nurses and Midwives through their Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union threatened to strike starting 24th June 2018, over low salaries and allowances. The agreement will see Nurses and Midwives benefit from the salary enhancement starting in the financial year 2018/2019.

Justus Cherop, the President of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union appreciated the government’s commitment to enhancing salaries of public servants. He also emphasized the issue of allowances saying that the enhancements do not include allowances that the staff have been earning before, these are not part and will be harmonized separately. He further appealed to the health workers across the country to keep calm and maintain professionalism with an agreement signed with the government.
