In 2004, Our founders set out to address the lack of qualified healthcare professionals in the
United States. Health Carousel was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio with a mission to ensure that
every American has access to high quality healthcare when and where they need it. And by doing
so, to improve lives and make healthcare better. This program was established in 2004 with its
headquarters in Cincinnati USA.
UNMU in partnership with Health Carousel in Cincinnati, USA, has been conducting online
critical care nursing (online) training which was started in February 2023 and ends in February
2024.

Continuing Education Units
The content of this course has been accredited as 75.45 continuing education contact hours by
the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC). This course is accredited as a CPD in the
USA but in Uganda, UNMU is in the process of having the course registered under the
ECSACONM Postgraduate Fellowship. An initial MoU has been signed with ECSACONM to
credit the course in the 16 ECSA regions.
Course Learning Objectives
Students who complete this 6-month course will be able to develop competencies to:
  Identify evidence-based care strategies to prevent healthcare-associated infections
and complications.
  Demonstrate knowledge of common conditions experienced by acutely ill patients
requiring critical care nursing.
 Evaluate assessment data and determine priority interventions for patients with an
acute or critical illness.
  Anticipate potential complications and take steps to prevent them.
  Assess the effectiveness of interventions for patients experiencing acute or critical
illness.
Clinical Placement
After 9 months of completing the theory course, students will be taken for a supervised clinical placement at an accredited ICU facility in Uganda.
The requirement to enroll for the course
1. You must be a nurse or midwife with a valid practicing license
2. Must be BSN licensed to practice by professional council.
3. Commit 2 hours per day for six days per week to complete the modules

4. Present a recommendation from the employer for time to take a supervised clinical placement
for a period of three months

CRITIRIA FOR ADMISSION
1. Must be a BSN or BSM
2. Fully registered with UNMC
3. Minimum of two years of clinical experience post BSN/BSM
4. Have access to a personal computer and reliable internet.
5. Written commitment to complete the course in the stipulated time frame.
6. Pay 60% of the administrative commitment fee within two weeks of commencing
the course.
7. A written application attaching all relevant academic documents.
8. One recommendation letter from the employer indicating a commitment to allow
the candidate to undertake a clinical placement at a designated ICU.
