The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU) has officially entered into a strategic partnership with TruMerit, a global leader in healthcare credentialing. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed during a ceremony at the Mestil Hotel, marks a historic step in opening formal pathways for Ugandan nurses and midwives to pursue professional careers in the United States of America.

The partnership aims to streamline the complex process of international recruitment, ensuring that Ugandan health professionals can transition to the U.S. healthcare system through ethical, transparent, and legally secure channels.

Key Highlights of the MoU:

  • Credential Verification: TruMerit will provide specialized support in verifying academic and professional qualifications to meet U.S. standards.

  • Ethical Recruitment: The agreement emphasizes the “Alliance for Ethical International Recruitment Practices,” protecting the rights of Ugandan nurses during the migration process.

  • Career Mobility: This initiative provides a structured roadmap for nurses to sit for the NCLEX-RN and achieve licensure in various U.S. states.

  • Professional Development: Beyond migration, the partnership focuses on enhancing the global competitiveness of the Ugandan nursing workforce.

Speaking at the event, UNMU leadership emphasized that this move is not just about labor export, but about empowering Ugandan nurses with global exposure and better economic opportunities. “Our goal is to ensure our members have the best support as they seek to grow their careers on the global stage,” noted a representative from the Union.
